I have been listening to people while they work through the difficult things of life, with awe and compassion, for as long as I can remember. I wanted to help them help themselves, and I became good at it, unprofessionally. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I realized what I wanted to be professionally, and I began studying to become a couple and family therapist. (Don’t let the name fool you, we work with individuals too.) The best thing about my field is that we do our best to honor how interconnected our lives truly are when we work with you. Each person is impacted by the other people and societal and cultural contexts they navigate. I would be happy to talk with you more about this if you’re interested. Before I knew what I wanted to be, I fell in love with the field of sociology. I have a background in sociology, with a bachelor’s of science in that subject. I regularly engage training and further education to understand and address human functioning and trauma on deeper levels, to include interpersonal (between people) and systemic levels (society’s systems and rules for operating). In 2014, I decided to get my Masters in “marriage and family therapy,” (the official name of my licensure in Colorado). I gained specialized training to work effectively with children, teens, couples, families, and individual adults. When I’m not working, I enjoy time outdoors with my family doing anything in the water, as well as horseback riding, and hiking or walking. When I’m inside, I enjoy baking, reading and watching movies.
